Union County Bicentennial Buffalos
First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania connected with local businesses and individual sponsors to purchase 15 almost life-size fiberglass buffalo. Each municipality of Union County, along with the government itself, was gifted a buffalo to be designed, painted and kept by the community as a lasting memento of the Union County Bicentennial.
In addition to celebrating the bicentennial, the project also benefitted Union County residents. Shortly after the buffalo were completed, a voting period gave area residents the chance to cast a vote for their favorite buffalo, with all proceeds from the event going to the Union County Community Fund. This is a permanent funding source for nonprofits in Union County through First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. Approximately $20,000 was raised for this fund through the buffalo project, which will be reinvested into improving the Union County community.
